Chapter 421 — What Have You Done
5 min read ·
Yara heard the words, barely a whisper, Castor’s aged voice cracking with the effort.
"I love..."
Her breath caught in her throat, tears already streaming down her face as she reached for him.
CRACK
The Domain collapsed.
Castor’s hand went limp and his body fell forward into her arms.
"CASTOR!"
They went down together, her arms wrapping around him desperately.
His face was weathered beyond recognition, deep wrinkles carved through skin that had been normal moments ago.
His hands were skeletal, his white hair thin and brittle.
"No... No no no no NO!"
She laid him down, her healing Aura exploding outward in a desperate flood of green light, flooding into his core.
Nothing changed.
She tried again, pouring more power.
Still nothing.
His life force was gone, burned away completely.
His heart was beating, but barely.
Thump... thump... thump....
The rhythm was failing, slowing with each beat.
"Stay with me!"
Her voice cracked into raw panic.
"You’re not leaving! YOU’RE NOT LEAVING ME!"
Thump... thump....... thump......
The intervals stretched longer.
She pressed her palm flat against his chest, feeling it slow.
"You finally said it..."
Her voice dropped to a broken whisper, tears dripping onto his aged face.
"You finally said it and now you’re..."
Thump.......... thump...........
Two heartbeats left.
Her hands were shaking against his chest.
"Finish it... Please just finish saying it..."
Thump............
One more beat, then nothing as silence fell.
His chest stopped rising and the heartbeat beneath her palm stopped.
"NO!"
The scream tore from her throat.
Her healing Aura flared brighter, flooding into his still chest with everything she had.
But his heart didn’t beat.
"WAKE UP!"
She was sobbing now, pressing both hands against his chest.
Then something inside her shattered completely.
"You don’t get to say it first!"
The words exploded from her throat, raw and desperate and completely broken.
"I’ve loved you since that cell! Since you didn’t make me feel weak for being terrified!"
Her hands pressed harder against his silent chest, her whole body shaking.
"I loved you every single day and I was too scared to say it! Too scared you’d pull away!"
Her voice cracked, dropping to something anguished.
"And you finally said it! You finally had the courage I never had!"
She grabbed his robes, pulling him closer, her forehead pressed against his.
"I love you too! Do you hear me?! I LOVE YOU!"
The confession tore from her chest, decades of suppressed emotion exploding all at once.
"You can’t leave me after finally saying those words! You can’t make me live knowing I never got to tell you!"
Her breath came in ragged sobs, her hands still pressed against his silent chest.
"PLEASE DON’T LEAVE ME!"
But his heart didn’t beat, his chest didn’t rise and he was gone.
The realization crashed over her like ice water.
He’d never heard her.
She’d finally said it, finally found the courage to confess what she’d felt for so long.
And he’d never heard a single word.
Her hands trembled against his chest, grief and desperation warring inside her.
’He can’t be gone... He can’t just be gone...’
She looked at his weathered face, his closed eyes, his still form.
’I have to do something... I have to... I can’t just let him...’
Her mind was fracturing, thoughts scattering in every direction, searching desperately for something, anything she could do.
’If I could just give him something... If I could just...’
Then she leaned down, pressing her lips against his.
A desperate kiss, born from complete emotional breakdown rather than logic.
A kiss that tasted like tears and blood and a confession he didn’t hear.
A kiss that was refusal and plea all at once.
’Take it...’
The thought crystallized with absolute clarity as she kissed him.
’Take everything... Take all of it... Just come back...’
Every ounce of her love, her desperation, her absolute refusal to accept this poured into that single contact.
Save him.
Bring him back.
Give him everything.
Suddenly, her life force responded to the intent exploding through every cell, shifting, moving and answering the desperate certainty burning in her chest.
It began to flow outward through the kiss without her awareness.
Text flashed across her peripheral vision, unread and unnoticed.

NEW SKILL AWAKENED
Shared Fate
Permanent Bond that links two life forces. What one feels, both feel. What one suffers, both suffer. What one has, both share.
Bond Established: Castor

Her life force poured out through the kiss, splitting down the middle.
Half remained in her body while half flooded into his still form.
Pain exploded through every nerve as her vitality ripped in half.
Her hair turned white, roots to tips.
But she didn’t stop, just kept kissing him, kept pouring her life force into him, kept pouring everything she felt into that desperate contact.
Then–
Thump.
His heart beat once.
Thump.
Twice.
Thump thump thump thump.
The rhythm stabilized, powered by her life force.
The connection snapped into place, permanent and unbreakable.
His heartbeat synchronized with hers.
His life force mingled with hers.
His aged face began changing, the deep wrinkles fading slightly, skeletal hands filling out with muscle.
And her hair turned completely white, matching his, as their life forces equalized.
Her eyes rolled back and she collapsed against his chest, unconscious.

Castor’s eyes opened confused and disoriented.
The world came back in fragments.
He was lying on the ground, something warm pressed against his chest.
’What... happened?’
He tried to remember.
The Domain collapsing, his body giving out, then... nothing.
Darkness.
He should be dead.
’Why am I...’
Then he felt it.
A heartbeat that wasn’t his own, echoing through his chest in perfect synchronization.
A life force flowing through him that felt foreign and familiar at the same time.
Pain that wasn’t his, exhaustion that wasn’t his, echoing through a connection he didn’t understand.
His gaze shifted down.
Yara was collapsed against him, her white hair spread across his chest and her hand still gripping his own.
White hair.
’She...’
He could feel it, the bond between them.
Her heartbeat matching his exactly.
Her life force mingled with his.
Her pain, her exhaustion, her relief, all echoing through the connection.
’What is this...’
His hand touched her white hair.
Understanding crashed through him, but confusion followed immediately after.
’A skill that links life forces... But how... When...’
His arms came up slowly, wrapping around her unconscious form.
’Yara... What have you done...’
He held her against his chest, trying to process what had happened and what she’d done.
