Chapter 709 — Last Words

Janna felt herself being transferred through space.

Despite having become a World Lord with combat prowess beyond that of ordinary Awakeners at this Rank, she found herself unable to resist in front of this force.

She didn’t find it strange at all.

The power teleporting her belonged to none other than that mysterious figure.

She had previously almost died upon glimpsing a single trace of their appearance. For them to be able to transfer her away without giving her any chance to resist was absolutely normal.

Time slowly passed.

For several minutes, the only thing surrounding Janna was the bottomless darkness.

It was only some time later that a light finally flashed on the distant horizon.

Then, a clicking sound echoed in her ears.

Janna felt her vision rapidly clear up.

The spatial passage disappeared behind her while she returned to the surface layer of the Cosmic Universe.

Originally, Janna had expected to find herself on a cruel battlefield.

After all, based on the number of students summoned by the Human School and the level of strength they possessed, a war was the only thing that could explain their sudden summoning.

But to her surprise, her guesses were proven incorrect.

What entered her view was not a bloody battlefield filled with godlike figures. It was something that completely shattered her expectations.

A scientific laboratory.

Robots roamed across the building, while men and women wearing long white robes could be seen tinkering with futuristic machines.

Janna was not the only student to appear here.

Aside from her, there were also a dozen other Awakeners. As for the rest of the hundreds of thousands of students, they were nowhere to be seen.

Both Janna and the other students were puzzled. They couldn’t understand what they were supposed to do by coming to this place.

Were they tasked with completing some mission?

Just as they were wondering, a person stepped forward.

It was a middle-aged male scientist.

He was merely a Rank 4 Awakener, yet faced with their extraordinary auras, he showed neither fear nor hesitation.

He looked at them with an aloof gaze. After sizing them up, he shook his head.

"Come with me," he ordered coldly and motioned for them to walk behind him.

Under normal circumstances, none of these students would have taken a Rank 4 Awakener seriously.

However, considering the bizarreness of the situation and recalling the might of the person who had brought them here, no one dared to argue.

Janna, just like the other students, followed behind the man.

Their journey was short.

Before long, the dozen students had passed through hundreds of crystal chambers before being brought into a room with a futuristic machine.

It seemed to be made of glass, shaped like a sphere, with the only difference being the several uneven patterns along its surface.

Janna was stunned. The moment she saw the machine, she felt herself grow dizzy, as though she were seeing something beyond her understanding.

Although it didn’t reach the point of when she looked at Liora, with her nearly dying, it was similar in concept.

"Tsk. Tsk."

"Can these weaklings truly empower this thing?" The middle-aged man glanced at the stunned students and shook his head in disappointment.

He, a mere Rank 4 Awakener, disdained those World Lords and Venerables.

In the end, he raised his voice, snapping them back to reality.

"We don’t expect much from you. All we hope is that you use your Cosmic Energy to keep this thing active." The scientist pointed at the translucent sphere.

His voice then turned solemn.

"I don’t care what method you use or how much backlash you suffer as a result. No matter what, you have to keep this thing activated at all times."

"This does not only concern you and me, but the survival of the entire Human Race. Do you understand?"

Hearing these solemn words, all the students subconsciously nodded their heads.

Although they were initially unwilling to be ordered around by an "ant", his words carried a weight that seemed to influence them.

Under the scientist’s guidance, they approached the sphere and began pouring their Cosmic Energy into its body.

Several clicking sounds echoed. The sphere began revolving.

Then, much to the students’ surprise, an extraordinarily bright brilliance erupted from it.

They knew what that meant.

The sphere had been activated!

--

If Janna could investigate the entire Cosmic Universe, she would discover that she and her companions were far from the only ones entrusted with the task of activating such a machine.

Hundreds of thousands of Human School students had also been given the same mission. Countless lights erupted at the same time.

The Human School was not alone.

Other organizations, including the Super Academies, had their students do the same.

In total, hundreds of millions of Awakeners were using their Cosmic Energy to empower something.

As for what it was?

Few people knew.

However, it was only a matter of time before these students and the entire Cosmic Universe knew as well.

--

At the capital of the Human Federation stood the highest institute in the Human Federation.

Information Company.

According to rumors, it was the company responsible for ensuring the safety of the Information World and its continuation. Although its members seldom appeared, the fact that such a task was entrusted to them made their authority clear.

At the depths of this unfathomable Information Company, a sphere similar to the one faced by Janna could be seen.

What was different was its enormous size, millions of times larger than the one she was facing, as well as the people standing near it.

Two people. One man and one woman.

Liora would recognize both had she been here.

The latter was her aunt, Anna.

As for the former, he was the person whose clone she had seen in the extraterrestrial battlefield—the Human Ruler.

Watching the countless amounts of Cosmic Energy appear out of nowhere and pour into the device before them, the two powerhouses knew that the time had finally come.

The expressions of both turned stern.

The one to break the silence was the Human Ruler. He glanced at the woman beside him faintly.

"Anna, I’ll leave the Human Federation in your care. If I fail to come back after today, I don’t ask that you save everyone, nor that you seek revenge for my death."
