Chapter 1074 — Book 2: Chapter 271: The night after the sunset (1)
13 min read ·
Cale was staying in Deputy Chief Priest Cotton's house.
He walked over to the window and opened the curtains.
“Human, it feels like some sort of festival!”
Raon was right. The outside was luxuriously decorated as if it was a grand festival.
Ryan, the first star, the God of Domination…
His castle was separated into the inner castle and the outer castle.
The inner castle was basically a lair with Ryan residing in the highest floor with terrible experiments and the execution taking place in the basement.
The outer castle was the area between the wall and the inner castle, making a circle around Ryan’s lair. That was where the residents resided.
This forest in the middle of the desert was like Ryan's kingdom.
“The date of the last execution is his birthday. How funny.”
Wiesha walked over to Cale and quietly mumbled.
Cale didn’t even look at her.
He was still looking at the residents of the outer castle enjoying the festival atmosphere.
Cotton walked over to him.
“Man, what a cruel bastard.”
One week.
From the time Cale heard about the date of the final execution until today…
During that time, Cale was able to hear from Cotton and the others about what Ryan had done during that time.
‘That bastard said that today is his birthday, so everybody other than the minimum group necessary to work in the inner castle got time off to enjoy the birthday celebration.’
‘He gave food and all sorts of presents to people. That is why everybody is excited. He even gave a day off to the exploited Beast people, who were forced to do extreme physical labor, allowing them to have freedom inside the castle.’
Cotton opened her mouth.
“At first, I wondered if he was putting on this circus because he wanted to commemorate the day he potentially becomes a god, but…”
She lowered her voice.
“We were thinking too nicely about that bastard. That bastard is a fully crazy bastard.”
During the past week, in the lair and the outer castle…
A notice was placed that anybody who said the word ‘Ryan’ would activate a spell that would get them arrested.
This was just the beginning.
“He said that there would be a show at 6pm today. That crazy bastard. The final execution is a show?”
An order had come down to all living beings residing in Ryan’s castle.
‘Everybody must gather at the plaza outside the lair by 5:30pm tonight.’
The plaza outside the lair, which had been empty, had been covered in large fences this whole week as they constructed something.
Once the fences were removed today, people could see that a large venue had been created.
That venue was where they would sing happy birthday to Ryan at 6pm and the show would begin.
“A show my ass.”
Cotton mumbled that it was not a show and that the final execution would take place there.
There was even a breakdown of the seating arrangement.
Inside the circular venue…
There was a high platform on the lair side where Ryan and his confidants would sit to watch.
The rest of the areas were split by race.
Beast people on one side…
Humans on another side…
All other races on a third side.
“I'm sure it is not a show and that they have some sort of scheme.”
Cotton grumbled before warily looking at Cale.
“You know, don’t you?”
"What do you mean?”
Cotton didn’t cower at Cale’s scowl.
“You know what is going to happen.”
Cotton noticed Cale staring at her at that moment.
Cotton subconsciously flinched at that gaze before she heard a low voice.
“Right now, I don’t know.”
“!”
Cotton's eyes opened wide.
"What do you mean?”
Cale did not answer her.
Instead, he headed toward the door.
“Are you heading out? You can't even use any magic to transform yourself right now!”
As Cotton mentioned, in addition to not being able to say Ryan’s name, the magic detection around the entire castle had become even stronger.
Using even the slightest of magic would get someone caught.
‘The surveillance on the Beast people is tight as well.’
Beast people were allowed to move around freely today, but the surveillance over the Beast village had been so thorough that they checked every person who came and went.
It made it impossible for Wiesha’s people to approach the Beast people.
‘That was so disappointing.’
That was what Wiesha had said to Cale last night.
‘And I'm sorry, sir.’
She had bowed her head.
‘We were trying to meet the leaders of the Beast people here so that we could inform them about the bastard’s brutality and drag them in to help us, but… It was not possible because we couldn’t even approach them.’
They could not use magic to approach them nor disguise themselves.
It would have been very bad if they got caught and everything was revealed.
“…….”
Wiesha, due to her disappointment in herself and her feeling of guilt, silently watched as Cale and Cotton stood by the door.
Cale started to speak at that moment.
“I'm not heading out.”
"Then who is going out?”
Cale slightly opened the door instead of answering Cotton’s question.
Screeeech-
Air came in through the gap.
Cale felt the breeze and pulled the golden top's whip out of his pocket.
“Right here, Cale-nim.”
Choi Han handed him multiple pieces of small folded paper.
Cotton’s eyes opened wide.
“Ah!”
Cale placed the pieces of paper on his palm.
‘……Freedom!’
‘Wooooooooooow! Is it our time to do some work?’
The wind gathered on top of his palm.
Cale opened his mouth to speak.
“I marked the ones that need a reply so make sure you get their answers for those.”
Elementals and the wind were everywhere, even without magic.
Swoooooooosh-
The pieces of paper resembled the flower petals fluttering in the wind as they flew off in different directions.
Cale leisurely sat down on a chair and spoke to Cotton.
“The responses we get will tell us what that bastard has done.”
A piece of paper quickly flew away.
‘Freedom, chaos, …salvation!’
Dragon Letao…
The Dragon who was to be sacrificed with his daughter…
The only Wind Elemental to have met him moved quickly.
He needed a response.
* * *
“What do you think?”
Letao raised his head after taking a look at the hand on his shoulder.
Ryan.
Despite being in his human form, he was the size of an average Tiger.
A wild beast.
The humanification of a wild beast would be the best description of Ryan.
Even a berserk Beast person would not be able to handle Ryan's wild nature.
Yes.
The Blue Wolf.
If the existence that the Beast people called a god was to take human form, that being would be as wild as Ryan and have a violent nature that shows its desire to dominate all things.
Letao was on the top floor, in Ryan’s residence, looking out the window with Ryan.
There were less than two hours until the final execution now.
“How is it?”
“Yes.”
Letao answered that question.
“Unbelievable.”
The sight outside the window was unbelievable.
The stage on top of the plaza…
‘They are going to do a show to celebrate the festival?’
That stage was tightly sealed with magic.
‘The bottom of the stage is connected to hell.’
The past week…
They had connected that dreadful pit down in the third floor of the basement and connected it to the bottom of the stage.
The moment the floor of this stage breaks, that dreadful pit will appear.
‘Where did the divine item go?’
Ryan had personally come to get the divine item yesterday.
Thanks to that, Letao did not have to look after the pit today.
“Unbelievable? Such a comment is a concern.”
Pat pat.
Ryan patted Letao's shoulder as he spoke gently.
“Isn’t today a happy day for you?”
Letao's eyebrow twitched.
Ryan saw this and started to smile.
“It is the day you finally get to meet your daughter and be freed from all of this. It’s the day you finally get to go back home!”
“Ha-”
Letao couldn’t help but laugh in disbelief.
Ryan spoke apologetically as if he understood Letao's feelings.
“Yes, I guess it could be seen as unbelievable in your perspective. You could feel like you were wronged and suffered all this time in vain. You wouldn’t have experienced something like this if it wasn’t for me.”
Ryan smiled.
“At least today is the last day. You are free! So enjoy this festival.”
“…I'm supposed to enjoy myself when I am about to see hell?”
Letao could see Ryan’s smile get bigger at his comment.
He looked truly like a vicious animal that Letao subconsciously cowered.
‘Such an individual-
Will that human be able to win?’
During the past week…
‘I haven't heard anything from that guy.
Can I-
Can I really trust that human?’
He had such a thought.
Letao knew that hell that was to come but had no confidence about how to stop it.
“Hell- that is a great way of putting it, Letao.”
‘Crazy bastard.’
Letao cursed Ryan out in his mind.
The numerous living creatures that would gather at the plaza today…
Of them, all of the Beast people would die.
They will be pushed into the pit installed in the plaza.
They will not be able to escape.
Ryan's soldiers and subordinates will force death upon them even if all of their family is there watching.
It will be that kind of dreadful sight.
Even if they wanted to run, running away in front of Ryan only meant death.
“Letao. At least that hell is not hell for you.”
“!”
Letao suddenly felt enraged.
‘You are planning on offering me as a sacrifice too!
My daughter as well!
But what?
This is not my hell?
You deserve to be pummeled to death, you bastard!’
Ooooooooong-
The mana around Letao subconsciously roared.
His daughter’s life was in danger.
However, with that human not sending any messages…
Furthermore, the fact that he himself is weaker than Ryan made it difficult to do anything.
Most importantly, he had been unable to find his daughter.
“Letao.”
Letao flinched at Ryan’s low voice.
“Your heart is so good. That must be why you are getting angry at the death of these lowly things.”
The smile on Ryan’s face disappeared.
“However, we can’t have you bare your fangs at me.”
Letao avoided Ryan’s vicious gaze.
“…I was unable to control my emotions for a moment.”
Letao had to say words of submission despite it being shameful.
“Okay. I knew that we could talk things out.”
Ryan smiled again and gently answered Letao.
“Help me until the end. Do you understand?”
Letao understood the hidden meaning behind those words.
‘Give up your life and your daughter's life to help me until the end.’
Nonetheless, Letao nodded his head without complaints.
“Okay. Make sure to keep your promise as well.”
“Of course.”
Letao then left Ryan's room.
The reason was because Ryan said he had some personal business to take care of.
Click.
He headed out the door and toward his room.
Someone came with him to keep an eye on him.
Letao felt frustrated.
‘What do I do?’
He felt as if he was going to go crazy.
‘What should I be doing?’
He gathered as much information as possible just in case, but he could not find a way to use this information.
“Hoo hoo. I will see you later, sir.”
The guard was the old mage.
He said goodbye in front of Letao's room and Letao sighed before walking into his room.
Bang!
He then closed the door.
There was just a bed and a closet with no proper furniture.
He sat at the edge of the bed and clenched his eyes shut.
‘Do I need to overload?
Then wouldn’t I at least be able to save my daughter and run?’
All sorts of thoughts filled his mind.
‘I wish I could use magic!’
Then he would be able to find that person who should be somewhere and send information.
Knock knock.
‘Nothing seems like the best option!’
Knock knock.
“…….”
Letao flinched.
He lifted his head up.
He looked out the window.
Knock knock.
Someone was knocking.
However, there was nothing there.
‘No!’
He could see something.
It looked like a small snowflake!
Letao jumped up and opened the window.
Swoooooooosh-
A strand of wind blew into the room.
It was not magic.
That was why it did not get caught by the surveillance.
However, the wind was not normal.
Swoooooooosh-
It roamed around him.
“Ah!”
‘It must be an Elemental!’
Letao immediately opened up his palm.
The white snowflake was a piece of paper.
He opened up the small folded piece of paper.
< We have finished the plans to flip things over. >
< Give us the info you have. >
“Ha, haha-”
There were less than two hours now.
‘Now they want info?’
“I guess it makes sense.”
There was only one thing they needed from him.
‘The stage.’
They must be asking about this stage.
He saw the empty spot on the paper.
‘A pen-’
He looked around.
“There are none.”
He had nothing useful around him.
But he could not use magic either.
Bite.
Letao bit his finger to cause an injury.
Blood started dripping out.
He started writing with the blood.
He did not feel any pain.
Something on this piece of paper gave him no choice but to make a move.
< One of the Wind Elementals that are not busy is looking for your daughter. They found one secret prison and I think they will find her soon if they keep following the traces. >
Cale had not been sitting around doing nothing.
He had already released the Wind Elementals to gather as much information as possible while also looking for Letao's daughter.
Drip, drip.
Blood dripped down. However, Letao did not care.
He started writing everything he knew onto the paper.
He looked at the last part of Cale’s note.
< The snake will rise. That is the start. >
“Ha, haha-”
Letao's eyes sparkled.
His eyes filled with hope.
‘Yes, the hell that will come soon is not for me.
Ryan.
It will be for you.’
* * *
6Pm arrived.
The residents, who had been gathered since 5:30pm, sat around the stage.
The sun slowly started to set and beautiful magic lights turned on around the stage to give off a tasteful atmosphere.
Ryan, who was seated on the platform behind the stage, was looking down from the highest spot.
Letao, who was in one of the platforms a bit lower than Ryan, could not even look at the sunset.
“…Son of a……!”
Letao subconsciously swore as he blankly stared at a spot.
Lalala— lalala—
Beautiful music started to play with the performance coming up, but… Nobody could pay attention to the music.
Baaaaang! Baaaaang—!
Crack, bang!
He just stood there and watched something big that was approaching while destroying everything around it.
It was the oldest Beast person in this world, one that had lived as long as the Dragons.
It was an existence that was fitting the title of mystical creature.
Shhhhhhhh-
A large snake dozens of meters in length was glaring at Ryan with the sun setting behind her back.
However, Ryan didn’t even look at the White Snake.
The white gold-haired man flying toward him…
“Look at this character-lacking young bastard stare at an elder like that.”
Eruhaben said that statement before gently waving his hand.
Gold dust roamed around him before moving with his hand movement.
Baaaaaaaaaang—–!
Instead of a performance, an explosion echoed across the stage.
