Chapter 1084 — Book 2: Chapter 281: The Night does not Equate to Fear (2)
14 min read ·
As Lock stood there firmly, this young boy, Lock’s back, looked extremely large to the White Snake.
“He’s gotten even bigger.”
She heard Gashan's voice of disbelief.
No, it was not disbelief.
It was closer to awe.
As she recognized that…
Baaaaaaaaaang!
Loud explosions started echoing through the sky.
The first to make a move was the black mage.
“Ke, keke-”
The man, who had not turned black above his eyes, laughed eccentrically as he charged toward Cale.
“I smell a filthy stench! A human dares to use such arrogant powers?!”
Black smoke came out whenever he opened his mouth.
Slaaash-!
His open wings and his hand that was still attached turned sharp.
They looked bizarre like tentacles as they launched themselves toward Cale.
Baaaaaang!
Choi Han blocked them.
– Choi Han, don’t worry!
Choi Han quickly slashed his sword down as Raon’s flight magic kept him up.
Black aura shot out from the tip of his sword toward the mage.
Baaaaang!
Sharp sounds echoed out as swords clashed against each other.
“Hoooo.”
The black mage laughed.
“You are strong for a human.”
“Pfft.”
Choi Han snickered. The mage’s eyebrow rose up.
Choi Han watched as he answered nonchalantly.
“You sure like to run wild for a nobody.”
“…What?”
The black smoke coming out of the black mage’s mouth became thicker.
Choi Han’s skin started feeling numb as he watched.
This black smoke…
It was overflowing with negative energy.
Just like the black despair.
This black mage…
What kind of creature was he?
Choi Han didn't think too much about it.
“Listen to this rude little brat-!”
Choi Han laughed again at the black mage’s comment.
‘Is he really talking about age in front of him?
Is he pretending to be Eruhaben-nim?’
Choi Han did not say those things out loud.
Slash.
He simply expressed himself with his sword.
“You, eek!”
The black mage's eyes opened wide.
His white hair that had been chopped off became even shorter.
The strands that were cut off fluttered in the air.
Choi Han moved in between them.
Ooooooooo—
Choi Han’s black sword was wailing as it attacked the black mage.
‘I survived through the black despair.
Then I can endure this black mage as well.
I…’
Choi Han focused on a single enemy.
He trusted his friends to take care of the others.
That was obvious to him.
Baaaaang!
Baaaaang!
"Ah, seriously. Do you really think I have to do the clean up too?”
“Haha. This spineless little bitch has no loyalty either.”
Bang, bang!
Eruhaben and Eruhaben were already in a fierce battle.
White gold light and a yellow light…
The two clashing against each other resembled another sun.
– Hey gramps, need yelp?
Eruhaben answered Raon’s question.
– Little kid, you just focus on your shield!
Raon was protecting the wingless Maren and her father, Letao.
Letao was in an especially serious state.
– Also protect Cale.
Eruhaben did not say anything else.
Bang, baaaaang! Bang, bang!
Instead, there were more clashes of intense lights.
Eruhaben was skilled at using dust to fight.
As for Epley-
‘Her magic is amazing!’
Raon’s eyes were shaking.
Epley. This Dragon that was supposedly a believer of the God of Chaos was truly formidable in magic.
She was using long-range attacks to prevent Eruhaben from getting close.
Raon bit down on his lips.
But he soon turned his head.
He could see Cale's back.
He could see Ryan beyond Cale’s shoulder.
“Haha.”
Ryan laughed.
“This level of strength is not enough to take me down.”
He looked up at the sky.
Ruuuumble-
He could faintly make out the rose gold currents through the roaring sky.
‘Is he trying to use that power to burn things up?’
“Oh my, what am I going to do-”
He spoke to Cale who had his eyes closed.
He was so rational it was hard to believe that he was overloading.
“That's a bit scary.”
Cale opened his eyes the moment Ryan said that.
– Cale.
The cheapskate commented.
– I'm starting now.
Rumble-
Rose gold light started striking down through the roaring of the sky.
Crackle–!
Dozens of thunderbolts…
The moment all of them headed toward Ryan…
“Kahahahahaha!”
Ryan laughed.
Cale then made eye contact with Ryan.
He looked too rational to be overloading.
Ryan snickered.
The guy who said that this was a bit scary-
“It just needs to run away. Didn’t you see it earlier?”
That was correct.
This black liquid knew how to withdraw to avoid the thunderbolts.
That was why it had not gotten caught earlier.
It had been the same way underneath the stage.
It was able to do so in a confined area, so how would it be above ground?
“You didn’t think that running away was just moving back, did you?”
Smirk.
Ryan waved his hand while looking at the rose gold lights.
“Dodge it!”
The black liquid instantly disappeared down as if listening to his order.
The thunderbolts were limited so they just had to run away.
“Kahahaha-”
Ryan then cast a shield and moved back.
He was also avoiding the thunderbolts.
This downpour of thunderbolts…
Avoiding the downpour was always the best option.
"There’s no need for a useless fight!”
It was at that moment.
“Yeah. I had a feeling it would be like this.”
Cale nonchalantly commented.
His voice was extremely calm.
As for Raon, who was watching, he could not hold back anymore and spoke into Cale's mind.
– Human, the sky is still roaring!
Ruuuumble-
The sky always stopped roaring before Cale used his thunderbolts.
Everything would then turn rose gold.
Raon remembered this.
However, the sky was still roaring this time.
What would that mean?
“This bastard who wishes to dominate is actually the most cunning.”
Cale extended his hand after making that comment.
It was pointed down.
He asked once more in his mind.
‘Is it possible?’
He heard an answer.
– Possible.
The voice then added on.
– This is nothing.
Ryan flinched.
“……?”
Ruuuumble-
The sky was still roaring despite a round of thunderbolts.
But the roaring was now so loud that it was making his ears go numb.
– Do you know how much stronger I got in the Central Plains?!
The excited cheapskate shouted.
– Obliterate! No, purify!
Cale spoke nonchalantly after hearing that shout in his mind.
“Go ahead, try to run. No, try to survive.”
After that…
The roaring in the sky stopped.
The sky then changed.
It looked as if the sunset appeared in the sky again.
No, the whole world turned red.
Baaaaaaaaaang-!
Bang— Baaaaang—
Countless numbers of rose gold thunderbolts shot down toward Ryan and the escaping black liquid.
The black liquid tried to run.
But down every path it took…
No, thunderbolts shot down in every direction.
Shaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa-
They then burned endlessly as if to find the black liquid. Fires were rising all around.
Crackle-
The fiery thunderbolts instantly swallowed any of the black liquid they touched.
“Wow-”
Archie nonchalantly commented as he watched.
“He’s killing them all with sheer firepower.”
Quality and quantity.
This rose gold light was overwhelming in both.
This was no downpour, it was a typhoon.
No, maybe it was a monsoon.
They poured down nonstop.
Baaa- baaaaang- baaaaang!
As he wondered how this was possible…
“You, you-!”
Ryan realized the situation from behind his shield.
His eyes slowly filled with rage.
He lifted his head up.
He made eye contact with Cale.
Cale smiled.
Cale had not used his power without any control.
It would be bad if he did that and ended up fainting.
The fiery thunderbolts were wolves.
They were wolves herding the sheep without a shepherd.
As a result, the escaping black liquid soon reached their end.
“I've trapped them.”
The black liquid had gathered like a swamp once again.
A fiery thunderbolt struck down from above it…
– But it is a bit dangerous. You know that, right, Cale? I'll need to use five times more power than usual to purify that but we’ve already used a lot.
Cale ignored the Super Rock.
“No!”
Instead, he smiled at Ryan's shout.
But the smile soon disappeared.
– We need to get rid of it all at once.
The cheapskate commented in a serious voice.
– Despair spreads again if any of it remains.
Boom. Boom. Boom.
Cale used the power inside him once again.
Ruuuumble-
The sky roared again and a single large streak of rose gold light struck down to the ground.
Toward the black liquid.
It shot down like a large spear a god shot down was cutting through a black swamp.
—–!
A light so bright that it silenced all sounds swallowed the darkness.
As it looked like a sun had descended to the ground…
“Young master-nim!”
Cale subconsciously opened his eyes.
Lock was running.
He soon kicked off a roof.
He made eye contact with Lock at that moment. Lock was the first to turn his head.
“Ha!”
Cale laughed.
While nobody was able to move in this rose gold world, as they were all blanking out…
As even Ryan flinched in anger…
“!”
He saw the Wolf charging toward his shield.
“You dare–!”
A Beast person dared to attack him?
Anger was visible in Ryan's eyes again.
Boom. Boom. Boom.
He realized that it was almost time to remove the last of the shackles chaining his body.
The last restraint to prevent a full overload…
He may need to release the card he had saved to fight against the Dragon Lord.
He was trying to save this card to hide it from Epley, but… If the situation was like this-
Crack-
The last shackle in his mind slowly started to crack.
Ryan was still certain about something.
“You arrogant little thing.”
He was certain that he could kill this Wolf in front of him without releasing his final shackle.
He withdrew his shield.
He raised his fist toward the Wolf charging at him with a punch.
Ooooooooo—
Blue mana swirled around his fist.
Lock clenched his fist tighter while looking at the scale-covered fist.
‘Right now is the chance!’
Once the rose gold light disappeared after purifying everything, although the black liquid would be gone… The enemies would become more careful and tightly gather together.
That was why, in the middle of this chaos, while the other enemies did not dare to come near Ryan because of the thunderbolt!
Right now when this Dragon would not think about escaping because he was just one little Wolf!
“You lowly little-”
Ryan’s eyes opened wide.
He flinched.
It happened in a split moment.
It was really just a split moment.
He glimpsed a fog covering his body.
And the poison mixed within the fog…
“Meeeeeow.”
He heard some kittens meowing.
“This is a special poison to fight against Dragons, nya! I made it with the Lord-nim, my noona, and grandpa Ron, nya!”
The children that Wiesha had been talking about…
Lock was not the only one she was talking about.
Through the debris of the broken building…
Two kittens poked their heads out.
“But this is just experimental so it is still weak, nya!”
“It’s only enough to make you flinch for a moment, but…”
On continued Hong’s sentence.
“But that’s all we need, nya.”
On slowly started smiling.
It really was just an instant.
It was only a short one second.
However, that one second was actually quite long.
Lock and Raon were the ones who knew the most about On and Hong putting in the effort and practicing for this.
“I'm here too!”
The moment the fog covered Ryan…
In that period of one second…
Raon immediately cast his magic.
“!”
Ryan’s eyes opened wide.
A small black shield blocked his mana-covered fist.
That was Raon’s shield to protect Lock.
“You shitheads-!”
As Ryan got out of the paralysis and broke that shield…
As he tried to cast a spell and launch an attack toward Lock who was trying to punch his face…
“Die!”
Lock shouted and twisted his body.
He immediately released his fist.
“Ha, haha!”
Cale laughed again.
‘Young master-nim!’
When Lock had shouted that, Raon had spoken into Cale’s mind.
– Human! Noona sneaked over to me and said something! She said that she and our good boy Lock will steal the divine item so she will leave the rest to you!
‘When did they grow up so much?’
Cale had that thought as he observed Lock, who looked like he was ready to punch Ryan, release his fist and twist his body.
Lock basically jumped into Ryan’s arms, and…
“T, this bastard!”
He clenched the divine item in Ryan's right hand.
He then pulled with everything he had.
He pulled out every ounce of strength he could muster.
“You dare!”
Ryan's eyes filled with rage but Lock could not hear his angry shouts.
‘I got it!’
He finally managed to pull the divine item away.
Boom!
He heard the voice again.
Could he touch this thing that was polluted by the black liquid with his bare hands?
Lock did not even think about such a thing.
It was his instincts.
‘I can touch this with no issue.’
On and Hong had whispered while they were underneath the debris of the building whether it would be okay for him to touch it with his bare hands, but…
Lock had nodded his head saying that it would be okay.
It was baseless confidence, but it felt like pure logic to Lock.
He heard the voice.
– You came.
He just needed to hold onto this and run away.
Lock had to quickly move.
– I always knew that I was not the one to save you guys. As always, you guys are the ones to save me.
Boom.
But his heart was beating.
Lock subconsciously stopped moving.
“You need to move quickly, nya!”
“What are you doing, nya!”
He heard On and Hong's urgent voices.
But Lock hesitated for a few seconds.
Boom. Boom.
His heart, no, his entire body felt as if it was beating wildly.
Ryan did not miss this opening.
“You dare!”
Mana swirled in his left hand.
His left hand was covered by a blade-like mana as it stabbed toward Lock's side.
It looked ready to slice Lock in half at any moment.
Baaaaaang!
However, Raon's shield immediately stopped him.
“!”
Lock snapped back to his senses in shock after hearing the noise.
He then heard a low voice.
It was Ryan's voice.
“I guess this is very important to you?”
Lock could tell because he saw it up close.
He could tell that Ryan was the angriest right now.
“But that’s too bad.”
Ryan nonchalantly commented.
“The last stage of the ritual is to destroy the divine item.”
‘Huh?’
Lock flinched.
"The divine item is already completely polluted.”
Ryan was already moving despite speaking leisurely.
Raon's mana headed toward Ryan.
Baaaaang!
Ryan blocked it.
Plop.
His body started to get larger.
It resembled a monster that got out of its shackles.
He then shot out spells in all directions.
“I'll stop them!”
Raon blocked them all.
Baaaaaang! Baaaaang! Baaaaang!
However, Raon was now busy doing this.
As over a dozen spells were instantly cast…
Crackle—!
A fiery thunderbolt struck Ryan.
Lock then saw Cale place a hand on his shoulder.
“Move back.”
As Cale tried to move him back…
Ryan casually commented.
“Too late.”
Crack.
Lock looked down.
The dozens of spells…
One of them was an extremely faint mana arrow that was as small as a needle.
That flew toward the target and managed to strike it in the chaos.
Ryan spoke with a casual look on his face.
“The polluted divine item… The essence of the polluted divine item is already mine.”
‘The last stage of the ritual is to destroy the divine item.’
‘The divine item is already completely polluted.’
Craaaaaaack-
The small crack was enough for the divine item to quickly start breaking.
Ryan extended his hand.
“My swamp.”
The black liquid.
“That existence that was newly born in my swamp will always end up being mine.”
Rip. Rip.
Ryan's body grew even more.
He looked neither like a human nor a Dragon.
He resembled something in between the two.
His shadow covered Cale and Lock.
He then said the following.
“Essence of the divine item. Come to me.”
Craaaaaaack-
The divine item completely split into two.
Lock heard a voice as that happened.
– If you get covered in shit, just wipe it off.
– The true nature does not change.
The now black divine item…
What rose within it was an extremely small blue flame.
“H, how-”
A flustered Ryan heard a voice.
Cale was smiling brightly as he spoke in a cheeky tone.
“Aigoo, whatever shall we do? It doesn’t look polluted.”
He casually commented back at Ryan.
“This is why what is inside is more important than what is outside. Got it?
Pfft.” The laughing Cale suddenly stopped.
‘Huh?’
Lock was blankly standing there with his mouth open when the small blue flame popped right into his mouth.
It had happened so quickly.
It had happened so, so quickly.
“Huh?”
Cale was shocked while Lock froze with his mouth open.
He was so shocked that he was frozen stiff.
Cale heard the panicked voice of the Super Rock.
– Lock ended up eating the divine item?
‘Uhh, I guess so?’
– Is this okay?
‘Uhh, I guess so?’
