Chapter 1143 — Book 2: Chapter 340: What is your target, your end goal? (4)
14 min read ·
Cale told Aurora the overall concept of New World as well as everything he knew about Count Ruiphe.
– Cale, that’s technically not everything.
– That’s right. You hid the fact that you are half Demonic race.
‘Come on! It’s not like I'm actually half Demonic race!
It's just the setting for my game character!
Why would I need to tell her that?!’
It was absolutely not the case that he could not tell her because she was the only descendant of the former Demon King.
Definitely not.
Cale scowled at the glutton priestess's calm comment.
‘You were always the quiet one. Why have you suddenly become chattier these days?’
– …….
The glutton priestess chose to be silent once more.
The glutton priestess had become chattier since chewing up all of Cale’s plate powder last time.
Cale thought about the ancient powers that were oddly slowly starting to change before flinching.
“So what you are saying is…”
Aurora spoke with a stiff look on her face.
Her face was full of rage.
“Count Ruiphe, no, all of the disappeared members of the Demonic race may be in that game?”
“It is highly likely. But we will need to first confirm whether the Count Ruiphe I know is the same Count Ruiphe you are talking about.”
“Ha!”
Aurora scoffed in disbelief.
“Wait-”
She could not hide her anger.
“Raising my very own precious omnipotent god?”
After saying the game’s name…
“New World?
Wow.”
She could not hold back a gasp.
It could not be helped.
“Based on what you said, that game is just a form of pleasure enjoyed by the people of Earth 3 where the Transparent Bloods are located.”
“Mm. More than pleasure, it is a world of its own, and to some, that world might be real-”
Cale blabbed on to calm her down, but Aurora didn't listen to him.
“It is for pleasure! Most people will be playing it for fun. If the Demonic race all ended up as that monster mob you talked about, just like Count Ruiphe, they would be repeating a life of fighting and dying and reviving without having any memory of it.”
Cale had nothing to say.
“That is seriously too terrible!”
Aurora was feeling something beyond anger. It was grief.
“To not know who you are and be used like chess pieces in a game! I-”
I wouldn't want to live.
Aurora could not say that out loud.
She lowered her head and caught her breath.
She then barely managed to speak again.
“…NPCs are tied to the game, correct?”
“Yes ma’am.”
“And Count Ruiphe is an NPC?”
Cale responded with silence to show his agreement.
“Fuck!”
Aurora jumped up and didn’t know what to do.
She could not calm her anger.
Cale learned of the reason after hearing what she said next.
“To be honest with you, there are close to 1,000 members of the Demonic race that have disappeared.”
“Mm.”
Cale groaned.
Around 1,000 people.
– That makes sense. You take the Count and a couple other noble families around the same size as well as a few villages and it should be around that number.
The Super Rock commented.
“Of course, this number is the lowest possible amount. We are only including the ones we were able to identify as missing.”
After hearing Aurora say that…
Cale said just one sentence.
“That motherfucker of a Demon King has gone crazy.”
“……!”
Aurora flinched.
Cale didn't care and because he was feeling just as angry as Aurora was, he told the truth in order to console her.
No matter what was said, the important thing right now was to be sincere.
“I thought that the Hunter bastards deserved to be fucked up but that bastard of a Demon King deserved to be fucked completely up as well. He took his own people and turned them like that. I think he deserves a beating along with the God of Chaos.”
Cale looked at Aurora and asked.
“Don't you think so?”
Aurora saw the extremely annoyed and angry look on Cale’s face and subconsciously responded.
“Y, yes. They deserve to get fucked up for sure.”
Aurora had nothing to say because what Cale said was correct.
However, she couldn’t help but be at a loss for words after seeing a human say that not just the Hunters, but the Demon King and an ancient god deserved to get fucked up.
As for Cale, he thought that his sincerity got through to her because she seemed to not be as angry anymore.
– I don't think that is what happened.
He ignored the glutton priestess.
“Okay then, let’s organize the information first.”
He motioned for Aurora to sit back down and opened his mouth.
“…….”
Aurora sat down, looking much calmer.
Cale used that moment to organize his thoughts.
‘Things are more intertwined than I thought.’
The Arbitrators. Cale wasn’t too intertwined with this group, but he was more intertwined with the Demonic race than he expected.
‘Count Ruiphe.’
He was someone even more important to Cale than the Heinous Dark Bear to take control of the Eight Evils.
Count Ruiphe was the true final boss of the Third Evil.
‘In addition-’
Count Ruiphe.
‘He was originally the wealthiest in the Demon World?’
“Ahem. Hem.”
Cale let out some fake coughs and cleared his throat.
He then nonchalantly asked.
“If the current Demon King captures Count Ruiphe, they would gain significant benefits. You said that Count Ruiphe was extremely wealthy.”
“Ah- that.”
Aurora spoke with an annoyed look on her face.
“I thought so as well. But that does not seem to be the case.”
Aurora had said that the reason she was so shabby right now was because Count Ruiphe’s monetary support had been cut off.
“Part of it is because our activities have lessened in the Demon World due to the current Demon King focusing more on scoping us out than dealing with the Hunters, but…”
Either way, the current Demon King should be quite rich after gaining Count Ruiphe’s wealth.
“But Count Ruiphe’s wealth did not end up in the Demon King's hands.”
Aurora was certain about that.
“We made contact with one of Count Ruiphe’s confidants while looking for him.”
According to that person…
“He said that Count Ruiphe had a secret safe.”
He was said to have gathered the majority of his wealth and all sorts of treasure in that place.
“Most importantly, the thing that lets me be certain that the Demon King does not have Count Ruiphe’s wealth is the fact that his greatest asset is in the safe.”
“And what is that?”
“Count Ruiphe’s merchant guild is the greatest merchant guild in the Demon World.”
“Ah.”
Cale looked interested.
– Hehe.
The Fire of Destruction started to laugh.
However, Aurora had no idea about any of that.
“The official merchant guild leader running the guild is someone else, but Count Ruiphe still has the title for ownership of the merchant guild.”
The current Demon King was unable to gain the Demon King's greatest wealth in the end.
“Of course, there are only a few people, including me, who know that Count Ruiphe is the true owner of that merchant guild. Well, the Demon King's side probably has a few people as well.”
That was how secretive Count Ruiphe had been for the source of his wealth.
‘Wow.’
Cale was amazed.
Count Ruiphe.
‘That slightly clueless looking guy is this amazing?’
– He did not look clueless. Didn't he look quite cool the first time we saw him?
Cale ignored the Super Rock and smiled.
“It sounds like we have to meet with Count Ruiphe for sure.”
“Yes sir. Honestly, yes, yes we do.”
Aurora nodded her head but could not hide the look of seriousness on her face.
“If it is as you said, Mr. Cale, it may be useless to go meet with Count Ruiphe.”
The Count Ruiphe that Cale met had no memory of the Demon World right now. He thought that he was an NPC within the game.
“I'm not sure.”
But Cale shook his head.
“Count Ruiphe has learned that he exists within a game and knows the existence of the Hunters. Starting with that, he has slowly started to escape from the frame of an NPC. If he truly is the Count Ruiphe you are talking about, he may recover his memories as well.”
“…Do you really think so?”
As Aurora looked at him with desperation…
– Hehe.
The cheapskate was drooling and laughing in Cale’s mind.
He naturally ignored this and spoke to Aurora with more sincerity than ever before.
“Of course. I will help it be that way.”
And in the end…
– Kahahaha!
The cheapskate laughed out loud.
– And we will receive payment for all of our hard work! Our subordinate is the wealthiest man in the Demon World! He possesses the largest merchant guild! Kahahaha!
The corners of Cale’s lips twitched but he held himself back from smiling.
His lips naturally made a flat line.
“…….”
Aurora saw his serious face and sincere eyes and quietly sighed.
“…You truly are different.”
She thought about Cotton, who should be waiting outside.
She thought about what Cotton had told her about Cale.
< Cale Henituse likes to act like a small fry but he is a true hero on the inside. >
< He would be the definition of not being fooled by outer appearance. >
< Although his body is very weak, he has the abilities, boldness and courage to overcome it. >
< I cannot even predict the limits of his powers. >
Something else had been recently added as well.
< He smells like a god. >
< But he is not a single-lifer. >
Cale Henituse was not a single-life. But he still gave off the scent of a god.
What did that mean?
“First we will use Neo's lair in Aipotu to enter New World. After that, we will set a date to secretly contact Count Ruiphe.”
“That sounds great.”
Cale and Aurora had a short conversation about how they would cooperate with each other from here on.
Choi Jung Gun.
As long as he remained in the Demon World, Cale had no thoughts about breaking this relationship.
‘In that case, it is better to have her under me.’
Whether it was the Seventh Evil or the Third Evil…
Regardless of which of the two Aurora ended up being associated with, she would not be able to get away from Cale's view.
‘I need at least this level of surveillance on them since I have no idea about what they actually do.’
He knew of their goals, but he didn’t know what they did for those goals.
That was why he would have to pay them some attention to observe.
“Please take good care of us.”
"Same for us as well.”
Cale and Aurora shook hands again.
They then left the fallen door on the ground and walked out.
Everything looked so empty.
– These guys really seem to not have any money.
Cale did his best to ignore the emptiness of the headquarters that worried even the cheapskate and started to walk toward Choi Jung Gun's altar with Aurora again.
It was at that moment.
“Mr. Cale.”
“Yes ma’am.”
Aurora decided to use the information from Cotton as well as her own experiences as foundation to tell Cale something she knew.
‘If he is being sincere-
I should show some sincerity back.’
She thought that this was information he would need.
It was what her years of experience was telling her.
"The ancient gods are not single-lifers.”
“Excuse me?”
Cale looked at Aurora, who suddenly said something unexpected, with a confused look on his face.
However, Aurora looked more serious than ever before.
“The ancient gods are the eldest of the gods, the ones who can be called the first gods. But they are not single-lifers. Their births are a secret.”
However…
“The omnipotent god that the Hunters are trying to create… That existence has probably looked into the births of the ancient gods.”
‘Uhh, mm…’
Cale was about to open his mouth but he stopped.
– Haven’t you heard some things as well?
The cheapskate was right. Cale had indeed heard some things about the birth of gods.
‘Possess a world.’
He had heard this information while fighting against the Blue Bloods, the Blood Cult.
‘Worship.’
It also required worship from a significant number of people.
He had heard these two conditions about becoming a god.
Another way was to hunt single-lifers like that bastard, the sealed god.
There also seemed to be some sort of test to become a god, but…
‘None of my business.
Why would she say something that has nothing to do with me?
Did she just feel that it was awkward and wanted to just say something?’
Cale couldn’t tell the reason behind Aurora’s decision, but he played along.
“I am curious to know what that secret may be.”
He just said something that fit the conversation.
“……!”
Aurora's pupils started to shake.
However, Cale did not see it.
Dang- dang- daaaaang—!
The loud sound of a bell ringing echoed all around them.
– Cale, something seems to have happened!
Cale’s face stiffened.
Slam.
The door to the house with Choi Jung Gun's altar opened and Choi Han appeared.
Once Cale and Choi Han made eye contact…
“Boss!”
Members of the Demonic race ran out from the old houses around them.
It was hard to believe that so many people were gathered in this small and old headquarters.
There were about fifty of them.
They all seemed to be core members of the group. The horned man who had carried Cale earlier rushed over to Aurora.
“Apparently the Demon King’s soldiers have appeared in the village!”
‘Village?’
Cale looked confused as Aurora gave orders with a stiff look on her face.
“Immediately send out an extra reconnaissance team! Also switch over to the wartime system right away!”
“Yes ma’am!”
Their faces looked solemn as they answered and immediately started to move.
Only Cale’s group just stood there and watched.
Cale asked Aurora.
"What kind of village is it?”
"This headquarter is currently hidden. They are talking about the village closest to this place.”
It was a regular village.
The Arbitrators pretended to be hunters every so often to go buy necessities from there.
However, they left some scouts in the village.
“The fact that the Demon King’s soldiers have appeared there means that it is highly likely that they have located our base.”
A regular rural village without anything.
The Demon King’s soldiers had appeared in a village with nothing going on.
This was not a good sign for the Arbitrators.
“Of course, it is possible that the soldiers were passing by and stopped in the village. But it does not hurt to be careful.”
Cale nonchalantly answered.
"At worst, the Demon King's soldiers will charge into this place and we have to fight them?”
“…Yes.”
Aurora’s face turned dark.
Choi Jung Soo quickly walked out of the house and asked.
“Then what would happen to our great grand, umm, anyway, what would happen to our grandpa? There doesn't seem to be a way to move the whole altar?”
For being in a shabby house, this altar with multiple spells overlaid on it seemed to have required a lot of work.
It would not be easy to move these magic circles and the altar.
He had never heard of a teleportation magic circle being able to move a magic circle.
“Cale-nim.”
Choi Han came up to him at some point and addressed Cale.
“I will go scout it out.”
Cale looked at Choi Han, who had his hand on his scabbard, and gulped.
– Human! Choi Han’s eyes have gone a bit crazy!
‘I agree.’
Choi Han and Choi Jung Soo. Cale had no idea what the two of them had done by the dying Choi Jung Gun’s side while he was chatting with Aurora. However, he could tell that it had not been good.
– Human, Choi Jung Soo's eyes are weird too!
Choi Jung Soo was similar to Choi Han as well.
– Human! Both Choi Jung Soo and Choi Han are starting to smile like weirdos! I'm scared!
‘I know, right?’
Furthermore, the two of them had odd smiles on their faces.
– Human, the two Chois are scary!
‘I know, right?’
The two Choi men… ‘Will I be able to handle them?’
“I'll go scout too.”
Choi Jung Soo asked Cale as well.
Cale looked up at the air for a bit before calmly speaking.
“Okay.”
Choi Han and Choi Jung Soo's eyes looked vicious.
Cale had turned his head and saw the two of their eyes before speaking without any hesitation.
“I'm going too.”
‘Yeah. Let’s just all move together.
The Demon King's soldiers.
I’m not worried about them, I'm worried about what these two Chois will do.’
