Chapter 1149 — Book 2: Chapter 346: Who the hell are these humans? (3)
14 min read ·
Arm.
Krop, a soldier of the Sixth Regiment, was the first to inform the others about their existence.
“What fucking bullshit!”
The knight at the territory he barely managed to reach did not believe him at first.
“It's obviously some lie by a coward who ran away from the battlefield! Capture him since he is likely to be a deserter!”
The Sixth Regiment.
What kind of group were they?
They were one of the Demon King's special Eight Regiments. Furthermore, they were the soldiers led by the Devil of Flames, the one who could cause the worst of nightmares on his enemies.
“I, I must meet the territory lord-nim right away!”
Krop.
After it was revealed that he was the son of the butler of Viscount Deshuran…
Krop claimed he could not share the details of their mission as that was top secret, however, the fact that Viscount Deshuran’s life was in danger was something they could not brush aside.
“…Is this really true?”
The territory lord asked Krop with a stiff expression on his face.
“Tis true, my lord! We cannot continue to waste time like this!”
Fear and dread… As Krop shouted desperately with urgency… The territory lord immediately ordered his subordinate.
“Contact the Demon King’s Castle!”
He then gave another order.
“Summon all of the soldiers and knights! Request for support from the nearby territories as well!”
This territory lord was someone who was pretty good at his job.
Most members of the Demonic race, especially the nobles, considered hesitation in fights or war to be something that brought down their honor. That might be why he was hurrying even more.
– How may I help you?
The territory lord calmly informed the administrator at the Demon King's Castle about what he had learned.
"The Sixth Regiment has failed their mission. Furthermore, Viscount Deshuran and the entire Sixth Regiment's situation is uncertain.”
= …What do you mean?
The administrator did not believe him immediately, requiring the territory lord to repeat what Krop had told him.
“According to the only soldier who managed to get away-”
It was hard to believe, but the territory lord still had to say what he had heard.
He gulped before opening his mouth again.
“A cult called Arm that follows the God of Chaos. They seem to be the ones responsible.”
– …A cult……?
Most of the Demon World was agnostic.
However, the Church of the God of War did have a good amount of believers.
But chaos?
“Furthermore-”
The administrator’s face turned pale at what the territory lord said next.
“They are apparently doing some rituals with members of the Demonic race as sacrifices.”
– W, what?
“They are doing human sacrifices.”
– P, please wait a moment.
The administrator could not easily say anything to the territory lord.
He was in charge of soldiers, but he was just a mid-level administrator who did not have the authority to know about the Sixth Regiment's special mission.
His report would go to his supervisor.
And that supervisor would report to an even higher supervisor.
Finally, that report-
“Your Majesty.”
It reached the Demon King.
“Ha, haha-”
The Demon King started to laugh.
“Did you say the God of Chaos?”
Smile. He then started to smile.
The one bowing in front of him stood up straight and calmly answered.
"According to the soldier who made the first report, he felt an instinctual fear from the aura suppressing him. It felt as if he was being dominated by that person.”
“…And?”
"Chaos and fear. It matches the Saint's powers.”
The Sixth Regiment's special mission that only the Demon King and a few knew about…
Furthermore, the secret cooperation between the World of the Gods, the Hunters, and the Demon World…
“How entertaining.”
Tap. Tap.
The Demon King tapped on the armrest before standing up and heading toward the window.
His footsteps were full of lethargy. He looked out the window with a tired look on his face before opening his mouth.
"Who is resting right now?”
“The Fifth Regiment is currently resting, your Majesty.”
"Send them.”
“As you command.”
The Demon King sent the Fifth Regiment to the spot where the Sixth Regiment was defeated.
“Ah.”
The Demon King calmly asked.
“What did you do with the soldier who got away?”
“I had him summoned to the Castle, your Majesty.”
"And then?”
“I will order them to kill him once we hear all of the information.”
The Demon King smiled and answered.
“How thorough. It would be bad if the secret was leaked. Isn't that right?”
“Yes, your Majesty.”
Krop's life was decided just like that.
"Chaos-”
The Demon King's eyes filled with a faint glow of amusement before it disappeared.
What remained in his eyes was this unfathomable sloth.
Each generation's Demon King had their own titles.
He was called the ‘Demon King of Sloth.’
* * *
However, the day before the Fifth Regiment was set to head out of the Demon King's Castle, Cale was already finished getting ready to leave the Demon World.
“We confirmed that he entered the Lord’s Castle.”
Aurora informed Cale about the report from her subordinate who had chased Krop and smiled.
“I'm glad we were able to move without any issues.”
This was a coastal village completely different from the HQ or village where Cale had stayed.
Actually, it was an abandoned village with numerous deserted houses.
However, it was as far from everything as the mountain village had been.
Cale took a deep breath of the ocean air before speaking.
“The fact that you had a couple locations in mind made it move very fast.”
"We always need to be prepared to run away.”
Aurora looked over at the busily moving Arbitrators and villagers.
Cale and Aurora were currently standing on a cliff high above the village.
“We were able to quickly move our headquarters thanks to your help.”
Money and magic stones.
Thanks to Cale's support with those two things, they were able to create a large teleportation magic circle to move the villagers and hostages.
They were able to set up a few different foundations.
“Isn't there even more to do from here on?”
Aurora shrugged her shoulders.
“That’s true, but.” At least we have money.”
Aurora looked toward the villagers.
They had come with them because they had lost their homes.
“We’ve also got more workers now.”
Thankfully, the villagers agreed to work with Aurora.
Well, they really had no other choice. With the current Demon King looking to abduct them, they could only leave their homes and follow the Arbitrators.
However, they saw some hope in their only choice after learning that Aurora was the only descendant of the former Demon King.
"We also completely got rid of our traces.”
They completely destroyed their headquarters and most of the traces had been erased from the village as well.
“But didn’t you leave just a bit of traces behind?”
Aurora smiled at Cale’s comment.
"We did leave traces of Arm behind.”
Raon shot up the cliff at that moment.
“Human, Choi Han and Choi Jung Soo say that they are all ready! Mary’s all done too!”
He then added on.
“Time to go back!”
It was time for Cale to return to Aipotu.
Choi Han should be in front of the house that held the new altar for Choi Jung Gun. Cale started to walk toward that house.
“Mr. Cale.”
However, Aurora stopped him.
“Mm.”
Cale got the chills as soon as he stopped and turned to look at her.
“Umm-”
As she hesitated to speak…
“It’s okay.”
Cale sternly answered.
“You don’t need to say it.”
‘I'm sure it is about that!
The ancient powers!
The thing she was trying to tell me last time!’
‘Didn't the members of the Divine race wipe out all ancient powers?’
‘The thing about the secret of the Divine World!
I don’t need to know about that!
I'm already annoyed that I got meddled with the Demon World but the Divine World as well?’
This was information he really did not want.
“Mm. But I think I should tell you. I can’t ignore it when it might be helpful for Mr. Choi Han.”
Cale’s face scowled completely at what Aurora said. He could no longer tell her not to tell him.
“…….”
‘Fuck.
Fine, I'll listen!
Let’s see what kind of secret it is!’
“… What is it?”
Cale’s voice was stiff after he finally broke his silence, but Aurora did not notice. Her own hesitation was continuously making her contemplate it.
“Huuuuuu.”
She still decided to let out a deep sigh before answering.
“In the past, the single-lifers were not the only ones to become gods. That was the rule, but there are always bound to be mutants.”
‘……So?’
Cale’s face became even more discontent.
"The qualifications to become a god were also given to those who overcame the limits of their kind.”
‘…I'm not very interested to know.’
His gaze quickly turned salty.
"Anyway, beyond that, mm… The Divine race is a bit different from the Demonic race. They are unable to use aura or mana.”
‘Hmm?’
As Cale looked confused…
“They each have a special power they are given. None of the powers are the same, they are all their own powers.”
Cale’s face turned odd.
Aurora saw this and chuckled.
“Isn’t it similar to the ancient powers?”
The explanation was indeed similar.
The Fire of Destruction.
The Scary Giant Cobblestone, etc.
None of the ancient powers were the same.
“Most of the ancient powers that humans have right now are the legacies of powers from ancient times.”
That was right.
Most of the ancient powers Cale possessed all had their original owners.
Cale had received their legacies and was using their powers.
“That is why they are called ancient powers now, but during the ancient times, originally, they were all different powers.
Whether it was the Super Rock, the cheapskate, the thief, glutton, crybaby, or the one who swore like a sailor…
“Their own power. The Divine race called it their ‘unique powers.’”
They were their own powers, things that had not been passed down to them.
“The ancient times. As some humans started to receive these powers… The Divine race decided that those powers would eventually end up threatening them. Or maybe they thought that humans were invading into their territory?”
“…And?”
“They made it so that humans could no longer have those powers.”
Cale’s face turned odd.
“How so?”
“I do not know.”
Aurora shook her head.
“Whatever happened between the human world, the World of the Gods, and the Divine World during ancient times happened so long ago that even I cannot find out. However, some of the leaders of the Divine World made some sort of deal with some gods.
Mm.”
She stopped for a moment before continuing.
"As a result, ancient powers remained but humans were no longer able to possess their own unique ancient power.”
But this had now ended up as information about the past.
“However, Mr. Choi Han’s that aura domain… That is definitely not aura or mana. It is his own something.”
That was right.
Choi Han’s aura domain was his and his alone.
“That power does not have a clear attribute or anything tangible, but… It has Mr. Choi Han's uniqueness to it and, if that power continues to grow, it should end up as a ‘unique power.’”
Ancient powers and unique powers.
Powers that have been passed down against newly formed powers…
“I don't know how something like that has happened. Maybe there was an issue in the Divine World that led to a gap being created in that deal-”
Cale organized his thoughts.
‘So basically-’
Once humans started to awaken these ‘unique powers’ that originally belonged to the Divine race…
The Divine race did something to create limits to prevent humans from gaining these powers anymore.
‘Instead, ‘unique powers’ were spread out throughout the world to reside in places or items.’
After that, people who started to succeed these powers appeared.
It led to the unique powers changing their names to ancient powers.
‘I have those ancient powers-
Quite a lot of them.
Some in my body…
Some in badges through Embrace…’
He had quite a lot of ancient powers.
Aurora, who had trailed off, peeked at Cale as she continued to speak.
“Anyway, with Mr. Choi Han having awakened his power, he may end up getting the attention of the Divine race. I thought this is something you should know for Mr. Choi Han's growth.”
Attention from the Divine race.
Those words made one of Cale’s eyebrows slightly raise up.
‘We have no way of knowing if that attention will be just from curiosity or cause us danger.’
There were two people around Cale who could create their own aura domains.
Choi Han and the Heavenly Demon.
And-
‘There may be more in the future.’
The people around Cale were all strong and the type of people who would be stimulated by their friends getting stronger and getting better themselves.
That was why he had no way of knowing who would grow more and gain a ‘unique power.
‘Mmm.
The Hunters and the omnipotent god.
Cale, who had planned on taking care of them and then not worrying about anything else, scowled.
The Demon World.
The Divine World.
The World of the Gods.
‘…Ignore them all.’
As long as they didn't mess with him first, he would do his best to ignore them.
‘Control yourself-’
Yes, control himself.
‘Let’s only get involved enough to take care of the Hunters and the omnipotent god.’
After that, he would return to the Roan Kingdom, and-
‘I'll return to the Henituse territory!
I'll get some rest!
I'll definitely rest! No matter what!’
Cale strongly firmed his resolve as he spoke.
"Thank you very much.”
Either way, this was information he needed.
“Not at all. I hope it was helpful to you.”
Aurora smiled.
She was happy that she was helpful. She saw the firm look on Cale’s face and made up her mind to help him even better than she had planned.
– Human, what is it? You look sad!
However, Cale was sad.
He felt like his dream of becoming a slacker was getting farther away.
Why did it feel like it took a step away every time he took a sleep forward?
‘Ah.’
He really wanted to let it all go.
Cale quickly walked toward where his friends were gathered.
Aurora, who had been firming her resolve behind him, pushed forward again.
‘Mm.’
After barely managing to gulp…
“Oo, oooo-”
Viscount Deshuran finally woke up and tried to focus.
He was someone who sent the most critical and desperate ploys into the hearts as well.
Pow!
“Ugh!”
How many times had he seen others getting smacked in the back of their head and getting knocked unconscious?
“How many times?”
How many times had he rejected her like this?
She has already seen it more than five times.
“This is the twenty-third time.”
They heard a mechanical voice nearby.
It was Mary.
Clack. Clack.
The small bone monster next to her had a book in its hand.
That book was Viscount Deshuran’s weapon; a cursed item that would burn or decompose anybody else who tried to use it.
However, it was just a strong target in the hands of someone who was already dead.
“I did it once too.”
Mary calmly commented after hearing Choi Han's statement.
“Then it is a total of twenty-four times getting knocked unconscious.”
The twenty-third time was naturally from Mary and the bone monster’s attack.
“…….”
Aurora was silent for a bit before asking.
“Umm, are you taking Viscount Deshuran with you?”
“Yes. I think that would be for the best.”
“I’d be thankful if you did that.”
It was too dangerous for Aurora to keep Viscount Deshuran with her.
It would be easier for them to avoid the Demon King’s pursuit if they left the Demon World and went somewhere else.
“Then we will be on our way now.”
Cale smiled and turned his head.
“!”
Cotton created the ominous looking magic circle after making eye contact with Cale.
Cale slowly peeked at the new house for Choi Jung Gun before leaving the Demon World.
‘Fully absorb the saint’s power.’
Once he can start purifying the pollution of chaos…
‘Come back right away.’
He needed to save Choi Jung Gun.
Choi Han and Choi Jung Soo saw where Cale’s gaze had been and quietly followed behind him.
All of Cale’s party soon left the Demon World.
* * *
Cale flinched after returning to Aipotu.
Bang!
Gulp.
He gulped.
The one to tap on the table was Raon's mother, former Lord Sheritt.
Bang!
Raon then slammed his paw on the table.
Raon shouted.
“Lock is a member of our family! We will absolutely not leave him here in Aipotu!”
“…Words don’t seem to work with them…….!”
The Blue Wolf.
All Aipotu’s beast people had left to do was calling back their god.
Those Beast people and Lock…
Sheritt, who had planned on helping Lock with his issues, mumbled in a gloomy voice.
“I tried to take care of things nicely with words; I, yes, I tried using my words instead of my fists-”
Bang!
Sheritt's fist slammed on the table.
“Human, let’s go get our Lock!”
Bang!
After Raon used his chubby fist to slam down on the table…
Crack.
The table split.
Cale nodded his head after seeing the table, which had been fortified with magic in the Black Castle, break like this.
“Yes, let's go to Lock!”
Cale headed out of the Black Castle despite having only just returned to Aipotu because they had to go rescue Lock from the Beast people crying and begging for his help.
No, he was kicked out.
“Human, let’s go!”
“Uhh, uhh-”
